What will happen next?

I had never been exposed to the story that we are watching right now until this year in class. The bell rang today at what seemed to be the climax. Anyone who has never read/watched the ending, what do you think is going to happen?

Personally, I don't really know. It could be a tragedy where he gives the potion to her and lives alone, forever in agony, or he could get selfish. I don't know. Does anyone else have thoughts?

I am very impressed at your question, Ash. While I doubt your peers will respond, I would suggest you use your knowledge of Hawthorne to predict the ending.

I found out what happens at the end and personally, I don't think that it's that surprising, considering the literary period.

Just in spite of Miss J (sarcasm) I think he is going to do the selfish thing and take it himself

The whole time today I kept thinking "this is going to be a horror movie, and she is going to drink it, cure herself, and leave him to die."

The story definitely did what it was supposed to as far as romanticism goes. It definitely was not what I expected, though.

I think I like ALL of Hawthorne's stories; the plotlines were hugely unique for the time period. Many of our popular plotlines are following in Hawthorne's steps. Now, as far as enjoying READING Hawthorne, I'll pass. It's like Poe; The condensed version is good-I can only deal with so much inner turmoil!
